The EPA created Indoor airPLUS to help consumers identify homes that have good indoor air quality, a distinction that is especially useful for individuals with asthma, allergies and other breathing issues. EarthCraft Virginia, a Certified Verifier for the Indoor airPLUS Program, works with builders to help them earn the Indoor airPLUS label. We do this by providing input on the features required to protect homes from moisture, mold, combustion gases and other pollutants. Construction specifications include the careful selection of and installation of moisture control systems; heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems; combustion-venting systems; radon resistant construction; and low-emitting building materials.
In order to qualify for Indoor airPlus a builder must first design the home to earn the ENERGY STAR® label. Then the builder adds up to 30 home design and construction features to help protect qualified homes from moisture and mold, pests, combustion gases, and other airborne pollutants. Before the home officially earns the Indoor airPLUS label, it is inspected by your assigned EarthCraft Technical Advisor to ensure compliance with EPA’s rigorous guidelines and specifications.
